Postponement of the 40th Memorial Oita International Wheelchair Marathon.
With the kind support and cooperation of all of you, we have grown to become the world’s highest competition, and this year we will celebrate the 40th anniversary competition.
However, with the spread of the coronavirus around the world, Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have been postponed to next year, and many wheelchair marathon events in Japan and overseas have also been postponed or canceled.
Considering the current situation, the Oita International Marathon secretariat has carefully considered whether or not it is possible to organize the event and prepare a place for athletes to show their best performance safely.
Therefore, it is very disappointing, but we have concluded to postpone the 40th Oita International Wheelchair Marathon to next year.
Instead, the Oita Wheelchair Marathon will only be open to domestic athletes, not to international competitors. We came to the conclusion that we would still like to hold this event, but with as little participants as possible, and we will cancel the opening ceremony. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Details of the competition entry will be announced later on our website as well as other updates. Thank you.
